Plenty of outdoor leisure activities are centred on the rivers that cross the area : the Dordogne and the Célé are particularly popular with canoeists, as they do not present great difficulties and do not have locks with their weirs to halt your progress.
Gently gliding down the river is a wonderful way to spend a hot summer's afternoon. A large number of bases offer facilities for canoeing by the half-day or day, and riverside camp sites often have canoes available.
Although the rivers are usaually benign, you must always wear a lifejacket : problems can occur suddenly.
