The Valentré Bridge
This magnificent 14th century fortified bridge was the third built for the city (the others have disappeared), but it is one the opposite side of the meander from the medieval town. There were many reasons for this, including military ones : it became a key element of the defensive system protecting the town's western flank. It is now a UNESCO WorldHeritage Site, in context of the Santiago Pilgrim Ways, as many traversed it on their way to Spain. |
