Château de Cieurac

Historic site and monument ,  Castle ,  Park at Cieurac
  • Set on a plateau overlooking a valley on the Lalbenque causse, Cieurac castle was built c.1500 by the Cardaillac family. Its architecture prefigures the appearance of the first French Renaissance style in Quercy.
It stands on the site of a previous castle built in the 13th C. and destroyed in the 15th, on the orders of Louis XI. The reconstruction, begun c. 1480, was completed c. 1515. Richelieu had the castle razed to the ground to punish the conversion of Antoine-Hector de Cardaillac to the Protestant faith.
More recently, the Nazis set fire to it in 1944 in reprisal for Resistance activity. Now completely restored, it has since been embellished with a French-style formal garden.

  • Beau château de fin du 15° bien rénové et surtout bien meublé(ce qui est rare).

Très bel ameublement historique du château, beaucoup de meubles superbes du 15e au 18e, très bel escalier sculpté ! La visite guidée est très riche.
