This part of the South-West of France whose light, colour, warmth and local accent all speak of the South
this is the ancient province of Quercy, nowadays the département of the Lot.
Secretive, it hides subterranean stone palaces in which light and shade play hide-and-seek with faery crystal lace, and gaping chasms, like Padirac, opening on to the depths of the earth.
Modest, it is composed of small buildings : a wine-growers or shepherds hut, a dovecote , or just the low dry stone walls which criss-cross the wide, gently undulating horizons of the « Causses ».
Impressive, it displays for all to see the skill of builders in mastering the laws of balance and harmony. It takes the shape of castles, mediaeval settlements crowning the heights, like Rocamadour or Saint Cirq Lapopie, towns nestling in a bend of the Lot, the Célé or the Dordogne, like Cahors, Figeac and Souillac, or perched high on a hill, like Gourdon.
