- This walk takes you on the trail of history and prehistory. Discovered in 1956 by Fernand Champagne and René Espitalié, the prehistoric cave of Le Piage has recently acquired a world-wide reputation in archaeological circles. Methodically digging until 1968, archaeologists discovered no fewer than 130,000 items dating from between 20,000 and 40,000 years ago and bearing witness to the presence of humans : human and animal bones (reindeer, horse, bison, ibex, etc.), ornamental items (pierced animal teeth), flint and bone weapons and tools, etc. Long after their publication in 1981, these discoveries have once more attracted the attention of archaeologists.
