- This round walk around the little valley and plateau of La Thèze will show you beautiful woodlands composed of chestnut trees and maritime pines on the borders of the Bouriane and Black Perigord. Harvesting the pine resin was an important economic activity in the South-West from the 19th C. onwards. Using a little axe called a "hapchòt", the resin collector ("gemmeur") made a 20cm2 gash into which he inserted a thin strip of zinc enabling the resin to drain into a pot. From spring to autumn, the "gemmeur" came regularly to reopen the wound in the tree and harvest the resin.
