This more challenging walk is really worth the effort. You go from valleys up to the causses and see some fabulous landscapes. Your efforts will be rewarded with a magnificent panorama over the Lot Valley. The limestone soils of the causse do not retain water. As soon as it falls, it penetrates into cracks in the rock, and disappears into the depths. There, it forms streams and rivers which sometimes reappear a very long distance away, on coming into contact with a pocket of clay. In the Lot valley, water which seeps into the rock flows along the hillside, rapidly forming streams which suddenly spring out of the ground. This is the case at the place called "les Payrols".
